String-Skipping Workout
How to play
Take a simple three-note shape, such as the notes of an A minor triad, and play it skipping a string between notes: for example strings 5, 3, 1, then back.
Use strict alternate picking. Listen for any sound from the strings you skip, and mute them with your fretting hand.
Slow down until every note is clean, then move the pattern across other string sets.
Challenge
Turn the exercise into a short melodic idea by changing the order of the notes and playing it across three different string sets.
Tips
Watch your pick's path. The goal is a small, controlled motion that clears the skipped string.
