One String, One Story
How to play
Choose one string and stay on it for the whole exercise. The B or G string works well.
Improvise a melody that tells a small story, with a beginning, a middle and an end. Slide between notes instead of jumping.
Explore how the same note can sound different: pick it hard, pick it soft, hammer it on, bend it, let it ring or cut it short.
Challenge
End on a note you have not played before in this exercise, and make it feel like the right place to stop.
Tips
A single string makes every interval visible. Notice how far you travel for each leap.
